This book is based on a photo report created on Halloween night in 2018 in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa. I wanted to talk about the people of Culiacán and the fascination with violence that I perceived in many of the city’s events. The photographs were taken between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m., across various bars and along the Malecon. The night ended in a shootout.

The edition closes with a nota roja (a term referring to crime reporting, particularly sensationalist coverage of violent incidents)—the murder of an alleged rapist—which I documented while working as a photographer for the newspaper El Sol de Sinaloa. I continued to follow the media coverage and handling of the event afterward.
